How I got interested in Bombays

Fon Fon was a shelter kitten I adopted when I lived in Tokyo.  This photo doesn't do him justice.  He was the sweetest, smartest, funniest cat I'd ever known.  Everyone who met him considered him an extraordinary cat.
Also, look how helpful!
He was extremely attached to the humans he lived with, especially me.  After he'd lived with us a couple of years, one week in May, he simply vanished.  I spent months searching for him, setting out at four each morning to comb the neighborhood.  I put up signs with his photo and a text in Japanese and English.

I never saw Fon Fon again, but 15 years later, having resettled in Germany, I decided to finally adopt another cat.  Since my flat is small, I wanted a small cat, like Fon Fon.  More important, I wanted a cat who was as sweet and funny and people friendly as he was.  Then googling around, I stumbled on the Bombay!  Not only does this breed bear an uncanny resemblance to my long lost Fon Fon, but the temperament and extraordinary personality of the Bombay also sounded exactly like him!
